The Al Paddle Design
Cylindrically shape and carbon fiber properties allow for the paddle to have anisotropic properties (Strength in all directions).
The construction process the Al EXP begins with layered sheets of high grade fiber glass and carbon pressed in a mold. Each layer is strategically aligned to optimize strength and stiffness. An ABS (thermoplastic polymer) edge around the entire blade, which improves the blades durability and decreases its susceptibility to cracking and splitting.
Features the Optimal 1/4″ Curve for more user friendly catch.
The 10 degree bend from Blade to Shaft optimizes for added strength at joints and allows for greater reach. The experience of Al Ching’s 40 plus years in paddling, coaching, and design created a low shoulder profile with precisely tapered edges and strategically placed thickness in the blade added performance.
AVAILABLE SUP BLADE SIZES: 8.5, 8.25, 8.0, 7.5
How to Size Your Stand Up Paddleboard Paddle
As a general guide for sizing a flatwater / race paddle is to add 8 to 10 inches to your overall height to determine the paddle length. However, depending on the type of paddling you intend to do and board style, it may vary. The reason we give a range is because of the differences in technique, boards and water conditions. Just a note: For stand up paddle racing, recently we have been seeing the trend move towards a shorter paddle shaft length and smaller blade size for paddlers with a shorter / faster sprint style paddling technique.
- Surfing: 6-8″ above your height
- Flatwater / Racing: 6-10″ above your height depending on comfort.
