One of the perfect things to do in the Phoenix area during Spring Training is to paddle board or kayak. Arizona’s spring temperatures are ideal, averaging in the mid 70’s to mid 80’s. People are surprised to find the sport of paddleboarding being so popular around Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, and Phoenix but the east valley has some of the most beautiful desert lakes and rivers to explore.
- Starting off to the far east is Canyon Lake, about an hours drive from Riverbound Sports but well worth the trip out to the Superstition Mountains. Great to explore Tortilla Flats Canyon and perfect for the beginner to learn at the non motorized area of the Boulder Recreation Area. We offer group events and summer lake side padleboard and kayak delivery. Call for information.
- One of the closest desert lakes to the Shop is Saguaro Lake, just about 35 miles. We love to send people from out of town to the Butcher Jones area at Saguaro Lake. The beach area is known for watching the wild horses (yes, wild horses) and is an easy launching area to paddle. We offer group events and summer lake side padleboard and kayak delivery to the Butcher Jones area. Call for information.
- The Salt River is another great place to see some wild life with wild horses and cattle roaming the banks of the river. Just about 25 minutes from the shop. Although the Salt River is better know for summer activities with tubing, paddleboarding, and kayaking down the river starting Memorial Day, the Granite Reef area still offers a beautiful back drop of the Red Mountains that is ideal for picture.

This is open to guests and non-guests of The Saguaro Hotel in old Town Scottsdale. A great way to bring the day to an end in the pool. Whether you are a practicing yogi or never tried yoga or stand up paddleboarding, paddleboard yoga is an all levels activity that incorporates balance and full body awareness to your fitness routine. This is an extremely fun event and group size is limited, so be sure to secure your spot in advance.
Stay after the yoga session for drinks by the pool and some amazing places to eat.

Probably the best kayak rental experience I’ve ever had!!
First of all: we got the inflatable kayak for the whole day for the same price as it would have been for two hours everywhere else. I’ve used inflatable kayaks before, and they’re not always the best but these were top-of-the-line. The owner gave us the full run down on how to set up and take apart the kayak (super easy) and set us up with everything we needed (lifejackets included).
She also gave us pro tips on which lakes to go to and where to launch from with easier access for kayaks/paddle boards, and even gave us helpful information about the weather.
Really knowledgeable and very passionate small business. Will definitely recommend to friends and family and will be back soon!

What a great place!!
My daughter talked me into going out on Tempe Town Lake to try out stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and I am happy she did. We each rented a board for the day & took them over to the lake to give a try. Nervous at first, I got the hang of it in no time. Needless to say I had, as did my daughter, a wonderful time.
The staff at Riverbound Sports come highly recommended as a place to go when you need sound advice on what to rent or where to go for a great day of stand up paddle boarding. They also offer organized classes, SUP yoga, in and around the area.

Paddleboard Rental
I recently rented a paddleboard from Teri and Corey at Riverbound sports. They hooked me up with an awesome paddleboard and gave me all the details… what lake to visit, the best places to launch and where to explore! I spent the day exploring Canyon lake, I even spotted 2 bighorn sheep high on the canyon cliffs! It was magical! I felt they really cared about my paddleboarding experience and helping me to get the most out of my rental. They are experts in their field and I will return to them for all of my future paddleboarding needs!! Thanks Again!!!
